Phillip Lim Fall/Winter 2011

I absolutely adore Phillip Lims collection for the fall/winter 2011 season. This iconic designer has really gone a step out of the box and designed key statement pieces that are included in each ensemble. This really shows the overall creativity of each outfit. He has taken trends from least season and really played it up by adding even more colour while still sticking to neutral, earthy colours as well. I love his ability to add a pop of colour to each ensemble which still mantaining that sense of comfort and chique style. This collection really incorporates men's style with the basic tailoring and from this the designer was able to transform it in such a way that the neutral colours are still used but in a more feminine form which I love. I like the intergration between the two different styles to create one that is basic, unique and still wearable at the same time. This collection shows it all such as the minamalist trend as well as trends such as knits, sheer and leather. Each ensemble is so basic and simple but yet so versitile in it's own individual way because of the amount of detail involved. Each statement piece plays with different shapes and styles. I really like the overall mood of the collection because some of the pieces are inspired by japanese kind of style which can be found at  clothing stores such as muji or even uniqlo. I am definately planning to draw ispiration from this amazing one of a kind collection.

Minimalist Trend- Fall/Winter 2010 and 2011

One of my most favorite trends for both fall/winter 2010 of last year as well as the new upcoming year is definitely the minimalist trend. I love it because the clothes are so versatile and easy to wear yet still so tailored, structured and formal. I especially love the pant suits and how they incorporated the mens style tailoring with a more of a womens style fit to the pieces such as the pants suits, jackets, blazers and buttoned up blouses. The colors used in the minimalist trend is mostly those of the greys, whites, blacks, cremes and camels. They are definitely not like the colors that were shown in the spring 2011 collections but instead they are considered more earthy tones that compliment the fall and winter season,  which I love! Each individual piece is  considered a statement in this trend because of the precise tailoring and shape. This trend is contrary to any other trend and that's what makes it really unique because it's not bright, theres really no patterns or prints involved and they are just basic natural colors which can be worn practically everyday! These clothes really portray the overall feel and mood for the fall/winter 2011 to come and not just the look of these clothes but also the quality and material of these statement pieces is what really inspires me. These material may include cashmere, silk and wool. After analyzing a lot of different collections I thought that the best two collections that showed this trend exceptionally well on the runway is Calvin Klein and Phillip Lim. Both really took it a step further and explored with shape, design and detail while still maintaining that minimalist feel with the earthy colors as well as the steps they took  to incorporate some of the men's tailored pieces such as the blazers and pants. They were both able to take their knowledge of mens tailoring and they incorporated these aspects with women's clothing therefore to create more of a women's overall style and fit. The minimalist trend is one that I think will never  fade and it should continued to be adapted into different designers collections.

A Thousand Ways To Wear Leather-Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2011 Collection

This collection literally blew my me away when first taking a quick glance at it on Fashion Television.  The very first thought that went through my head was the solution to how to wear  leather in about a thousand ways and  Burberry Prorsum was clearly able to show this very successfully. From the leather motercycle jackets in black, silver, lime green, snakeskin and even khaki as well as the leather leggings, khaki style trench coats that were made of very light and wearable material and biker studded leather vests, I wanted it all! This collection was so feminine yet at the same time very trendy and wearable. The statement pieces shown such as the metallic silver jackets really stood out because of the amazing tailoring and  engraved details such as the quilting on shoulders which instantly reminded me of the quilted Chanel bags that are found in the Chanel collection as well as the silver studs that are found on the sides of the motercycle jackets and the khaki trench coats. I love how those specific pieces are simple and still elegant yet they are so detailed  because of the very little details on the shoulder. This collection is very unique compared to any other collection shown by burberry prorsum and the minute I saw the very first look come down that runway I knew that I was going to love this collection. I enjoy the simplisity of the pieces found in this collection and I adore how they paired some of the jackets with the colorful belts because it adds to the spring color pallet and it was a total contrast to the neutral colours of the clothing. If your confused with what to match up an item of leather clothing with another piece of clothing in your closet  feel free to get inspired by this collection and be amazed with what it has to offer.

Acne Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

This collection really brings out the latest trends for the fall/winter  2011 collection. I instantly fell in love with this collection! Leather is commonly used in this collection but I love how it's in different styles and colors as well. Not just the black leather motorcycle style jacket in the collection but Acne has gone beyond and above and taken this simple statement jacket and transformed it into vests, pants, boots, skirts and even overalls. It's not the normal style of leather type clothing that was found back when our parents used to wear leather when they we were younger but they completely took it a step further and explored with different colors that will be common. I especially love the different materials used such as the metallic silver and gold shiny type material because it makes such a statement yet it can still be edgy and these particular pieces can be paired with almost anything black. The textures of this collection and the quality is probably what stood out to me the most. Such as the mustard colored sherling jacket and the mustard velvet 70's style flared trousers, the sheer shirts and the vinyl type blazers. It's nice to see some of the trends from last season incorporated as well to this collection such as the military trend, velvet, wide leg trousers, leather, the maxi style skirts, camel colors, the platform style sandals and of course the oxford shoe. The blazers are unbelievably tailored and I love how they are there are 2 pairs of pockets, one is the sewn on pockets with flaps attached and ones are the actual pockets on the side of the body so that you can stick your hands through. I cannot get enough of this collection!

Balmain Fall 2010 collection

The french label Balmain continues to inspire me with it's iconic one of  kind blazers, leather jackets, military style jackets, ripped skinny jeans, leather leggings, stripes and military style high lace up boots. My favorite pieces out of the fall/winter 2010 collection has got to be the different style jackets with the broad shoulder pads as well as the military lace up boots. I think that every girl should own a pair of the military lace up boots either with a heel or without a heel because they are so trendy! They can be worn with absolutely anything in your closet and you can either go all out and dress it up with a nice tailored blazer and leather leggings or either wear them casually to work or school and wear them with a casual top and jeans. These boots have become increasingly popular and my love for the military trend is still evolving! Treat the your military boots as if they were  regular pair of boots in your closet. In the summer why not wear them with an oversized chunky knit sweather and ripped levis shorts? The military boot can be found in almost any shoe store at your local mall. Im excited to see the Balmain collection for the fall/winter 2011 collection!

That 70's Trend

As mentioned numerous of times by Fashion Television's Jeanne Beker and as shown in most of the greatest designers spring 2011 collection it is clearly emphasized that the 70's trend is back in style. The wide leg trousers, colorful beach hats, statement bags, neon and bright colors, big trendy shades, platform sandals, over the top bright patterns, long dresses, bright stripes and volumcious sized hair all indicated that this trend is clearly going to be one to look out for if you want to be trendy for this spring/summer. Make room for those new wide leg trousers in your closet right next to your skinny jeans because your definitely going to need them! Out of all the key pieces in the 70's trend my favorite is the wide leg trouser because they are so simple and elegant that you can pair them up with almost anything in your closet. If your going out why not dress it up and pair a nice, tailored style blazer with the wide leg trouser and  platform sandals to go with it and make you legs look even longer? And if you want to dress it down you can always pair it with a simple leather jacket or even a white blouse. There are so many possible ways to wear the wide leg trouser! Although a lot of designers such as D&G, DSquared, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg,  and I'm sure many others demonstrate this trend I think that the designer that does the best is hands down Marc Jacobs for both the Marc Jacobs collection as well as the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection because of his use of bright colors and amazing prints.

Style Icon- Emanuelle Alt

If I were to choose one person that has really influenced my style and the way I dress it would most likely have to be fashion icon Emanuelle Alt. She is the new editor of French Vogue and has taken the place of Carine Roitfeld. I am constantly looking at her pictures on the internet because she inspires me with her unbelievable style that is simplistic yet still chic, fabulous and trendy. One thing I have noticed about the way she dresses is her ability to really rock out the amazing blazers and leather motorcycle jackets and how she always pairs them with a simple pair of skinny jeans and thigh high boots or even the new 70's style flare jeans. One of my favorite looks of hers I am so inspired by is her ability to pair her Givency leather leggings with military type blazers and this makes her look so put together yet it's still so versatile and simple to do because she doesn't go over the top.  Her love for the French label Balmain is what inspires me th most. She is effortlessly stylish and I'm sure she will do an amazing job for French Vogue.

New York Fashion Week Coverage- Marc Jacobs Fall 2011Collection

One of my most favorite collections out of all the collections shown at New York Fashion Week is definitely the Marc Jacob's collection. The evening of the show I literally sat at my computer for three hours on Style.com and awaited for the pictures of the show which was going be put up and when it finally did I screamed for joy. I reviewed the photos over and over again analyzing all the specific details, styles and the choice of colors used. I thought that his collection was absolutely brilliant and really showcased all the trends that were used previously both in his spring/summer 2011 collection as well as his fall 2010 collection. These trends included the military trend, the lace trend, the 70's trend with the wide leg trouser, the leather trend as well as the high shoulder trend which is absolutely my favorite. It was nice to see the versatility of his entire collection and his use of pattern which happens to be polka-dots for the fall 2011 collection. It was nice to finally see the models hair all slicked back into a simple pony tail and very natural make up which included simply liquid eyeliner, some foundation and blush. As soon as I viewed the video of his collection on Style.com my initial reaction was the amazing headbands the models were wearing. It kind of reminded me of the child show I used to watch called the Flinstones! I especially loved how this collection was a combination of the formal kind of wear but still very chic and put together.  The tailoring of the skirts and blazers were amazing and the unique polka dotted tights added to the whole ensemble of each of the outfits shown above. I loved the colors he used such as the deep greens, the dark blues, burgundys, whites, creams and blacks because they are so different and creative to wear if you really want to stand out of a crowd and look trendy. The box like bags/ purses the models were carrying with their outfits were exceptional and I would literally die to have one in my closet! I am most definitely inspired by Marc Jacob's collection and I will be keeping an eye out on any key pieces while shopping that look as if though they are part of his collection such as clothing that has polka dots and are the colors that he used in his collection. My first goal will be to buy a pair of polka dotted black sheer tights!
